DOEACC Centre, Imphal specializes in development of skill in the fields of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Information Technology through various long-term and short-term courses. The long-term courses except for the Diploma in Electronics Engineering (DEE) and Diploma in Computer Science & Engineering (DCSE) are in the non-formal sector but leading to recognized certificate/diploma. Other short-term courses are aimed at giving proficiency and the hands-on skill in the key areas of technology. The main emphasis is on updating students on completion of their formal courses with the latest development in their fields of specialization. This requirement is specially relevant in the fields of Electronics and Information Technology which are rapidly advancing all the time. Due to inherent delays in updating syllabi of courses in formal academic institutions, very often the formal technical courses have outdated syllabi. The result is that students after passing out from the colleges and the universities find difficulty in coping with the latest technology in the field. To remedy the situation, institutions like DOEACC Centre have tailor-made their courses to impart knowledge and working skill on the latest development in the field of Electronics and Information Technology.

The Institution has recently strengthened the infrastructure by setting up the following laboratories/facilities.

i) 128 Kbps DIAS Internet Connection from BSNL, 64 Kbps VSAT Internet connectivity under ERNET on LAN

ii) A new IT Security Lab.

iii) 2 Mbps broadband connection from BSNL

iv) Multimedia and Animation Lab.

v) Broadband Internet Connection through Satellite from HughesNet

vi) A modern maintenance laboratory, upgraded for servicing Electro-medical equipments

vii) A new power house having 140 KVA back-up capacity.

viii) A new Call-Centre training laboratory with audio-visual teaching aids.

ix) A new fibre optic laboratory.

x) Two new computer laboratories with LCD Projectors to cater to the needs of corporate training and school / college teachers’ training requirements.

xi) A new embedded system and VLSI Lab.

Over the years, DOEACC courses have benefited a number of students and its popularity has been increasing. So far the institution has produced 370 (DEE) and 30 DCSE diploma holders, more than 500 DOEACC ‘O’ and “A” passed students. The institution has also trained more than 2552 persons in short-term courses on Electronics and Information Technology. Many of its ex-students are employed in well known multinational/private companies, State and Central Government agencies and offices (cf. Annexure).

In 2002, the Institute started a new stream of Diploma in Computer Science & Engineering (AICTE approved). From 2003 DOEACC ‘B’ level course has been introduced. Besides this, new courses viz. Call Centre training programme, School Teachers’ training programme in IT has been going on under sponsorship of NEC/DONER and College Teachers.

In 2003, again two new courses in the emerging field of Bio Informatics have been started as DOEACC BI-‘O’ and BI-‘A’ Level Courses. These courses will open up new opportunities for those who want to specialize in Bio-science and Information Technology. DOEACC Centre, Imphal is proud that we have been able to bring the new exciting subject to this remote corner of our country.

However, many students in remote areas are not able to join DOEACC courses for one reason or the other. In order to cater to such demand from distant areas, DOEACC operates courses on IT on e-Learning mode. Under the programme CIC operators in the sub-divisional headquarters of Manipur have undergone a 6 months Diploma programme through the internet. This facility will be opened to all those who have access to broadband internet for undergoing “O”-level course on e-Learning mode

The institutes is embarking on starting new courses during the current year itself in the areas of :

1. VLSI Design Technology

2. 3D Design and Animation & Multimedia

3. Courses on e-Learning

4. Courses on Cyber Security

5. Certificate course on embedded systems

The courses will go a long way in fulfilling the aspirations of the youth of the region to pursue currently industry relevant technologies near home at affordable costs.
